American artist Dre Murray was born and raised in the South Park development within Houston, Texas, but he moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 2000 for college. Murray’s adopted home had a healthy Christian hip-hop scene that fostered his artistic growth. He released his first two albums, Project:Ghetto and Manumit, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. From 2009 to 2012, he and Grammy Award winning producer, Wit, issued the Hell’s Paradise series. This series would feature many prominent Christian artists and would lead to he and Wit signing with Collision Records in 2012. In 2013, alongside Christon Gray, Alex Faith, and Swoope, Murray formed W.L.A.K. (W.L.A.K.). The group released a self-titled album in March 2013, and it was a crossover success, peaking at number one on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart while hitting number seven on Top Rap Albums and number 81 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. Four months later, Murray released Gold Rush: Maybe One Day for the Collision label. It peaked at number six on the Billboard Gospel chart. Before leaving the label in 2016, Murray would release 2015’s 34 album, as well as the Dark Vader Mixtape, which was released for free via Soundcloud and Murray’s website, DreMurray.com. Since then, Dre has worked as a songwriter for Universal Music Publishing as well as a Voice Over artist for several organizations across the country, including I Am Second Films, bodybuilding.com, and Water4. Murray is currently in the process of launching his own streaming service called The Loop, which currently finds its home at DreMurray.com.
